Three awards for Best Websites of the Decade 2011

Tracing family history has been transformed in the past ten years by using the plethora of online resources available. Family Tree Magazine produced a shortlist of popular websites and asked their readers to vote for their favourites. In first place came www.ancestry.co.uk – this site has a wide range of family history sources, from census returns to military records, as well as a great tool for recording and sharing your tree online. Second place was awarded to www.ukbmd.org.uk, which provides over 1,834 links to websites with UK birth, marriage and death resources, some to free sites, others to paid-for sites. And in third place was www.freebmd.org.uk, a site that offers excellent transcriptions for birth, marriage and death records for England and Wales, providing free records to people just starting their family history, as well as long-standing researchers.
